Today in Masonic history David "Davy" Crokett is born in 1786.Born August 17, 1786 - Died March 6, 1836
Crockett was a 19th century folk hero. A frontiersmen, solider, and politician he is commonly referred to in pop culture as the "King of the Wild Frontier".
Prior to his death he served in the US House of representatives starting in 1827. Of his term in the house newspapers of the time printed his now famous quote "I told the people of my district that I would serve them as faithfully as I had done; but if not, they might go to hell, and I would go to Texas." Crokett did in fact go to Texas and would later die defending the Alamo.
During his term in the US house of Representatives Crokett becmae a freemason. In preperation for his trip to Texas he entrusted his apron to Weakly Lodge in Tennessee where it still suvives.
