The battle of Nacogdoches

Today in Masonic history the battle of Nacogdoches which was fought on this day in 1832.

The conflict occurred when a Mexican commander gave an order to the Texan colonists in Nacogdoches. The Texans refused, the battle ensued. A famous Texan by the name of James Bowie was a member of this conflict. Bowie a Freemason, had legendary skills with a knife. James Bowie's skills inspired the Bowie Knife. The Texans went on to win this battle.

Although the records were destroyed by fire in 1850, Bowie is recognized as a member of Loge L'Humble Chaumiere (Humble Cottage Lodge) No. 19 at Opelousas, Louisiana.
