Today in Masonic history Addison Irving Bacheller is born in 1859.
Addison Irving Bacheller is an American journalist and writer. Bacheller founded the first modern newspaper syndicate in the United States.
In the early 1880's Bacheller started his career in journalism working for Daily Hotel Reporter. A few short years later he established a business called the Bacheller Syndicate. The syndicate provided specialize articles for the Sunday edition of major newspapers. Through the syndicate Bacheller was able to expose American readers to British authors including Rudyard Kipling, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Joesph Conrad.
During his time with the syndicate, Bacheller also established a working relationship with Stephen Crane. Crane's The Red Badge of Courage became famous through the syndicate that Bacheller had established.
Later Bacheller would write several best selling novels and would leave the Journalism field for a short time. He returned to journalism during World War I to work as a war correspondent.
Bacheller was a member of Kane Lodge No. 454 in New York City, New York.
