Today in Masonic History Frank Leslie Chelf is born in 1907.
Frank Leslie Chelf was an American politician.
Chelf was born on September 22nd, 1907 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. In his youth he lived in a "Masonic Home" also known as an orphanage. Despite this he attended public schools and went on to Centre College and St. Mary's College. In 1931 he graduated from Cumberland Law School at Cumberland University in Lebanon Tennessee. That same year he was admitted to the bar.
From 1933 to 1944, Chelf served as an attorney for Marion County, Kentucky. In 1942 he took a leave of absence to serve in the United States Arny during World War II. He served in the Air Corps and served as chief code designator, Intelligence Division, Air Transport Command, and later as executive officer, Plans and Liaison Division, and as assistant chief of Air Staff Training. In 1944 he was discharged due to a physical disability.
In late 1944, Chelf was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served in the Congress from 1945 until 1967. After leaving Congress he resumed his private practice and was a legislative consultant in Lebanon, Kentucky.
Chelf passed away on September 1st, 1982.
Chelf was a member of Lebanon Lodge No. 87 in Lebanon, Kentucky. He was raised in 1937. He was also a member of the York Rite bodies (Chapter, Council and Commandery) in Lebanon. In 1945 he was the Eminent Commander of Marion Commandery No. 24.
